The export files in CSV format were imported into Excel templates which automatically created user friendly readable results and performance graphs.
  • Latency reduction – Network Performance Project
    • Working in multiple roles across multifunctional departments to achieve the delivery of this project.
    • As Project Manager I led a team and introducing initiatives to improve the customer experience on our networks and across IoT devices, by introducing new technologies and identifying and removing issues causing game lag and conference calls being dropped (Teams & Zoom). This programme was highly successful and significantly improved traffic performance by reducing latency across 7 product lines in 6 countries, achieving over 90% latency improvements, and pro-longing the life of 10 million legacy products
    • I create a business proposal for stakeholders with a four staged delivery approach which successfully secured funding for 2 resource and access to development resource over a 12-month period.
    • The program resolved multiple bugs in live, introduced new technologies such as Low Latency DOCSIS, AQM & PGS and we developed our own bespoke LLD solution for DOCSIS 3.0.
    • Working within a Scrum Master role, my team and I developed initiatives to address stories and epics. We identified and removed issues causing Game Lag and conference calls being dropped (Teams, Zoom). The role included assembling the team and being responsible for the smooth running of the delivery, adding tasks to deliver each story and removing blockers.

  • Wi-Fi Automation
  • Experience Foresight Leadership & Strategy: Established and led an innovative approach to product evaluation and differentiation, designing and implementing proprietary automation test labs and custom toolsets to conduct performance comparison testing of key competitor offerings (TP-Link, Domos, NetDuma).
  • Designed and built an automation test lab and framework for Wi-Fi traffic prioritization, standardizing variables to ensure repeatable and accurate test results.
  • Working with Wi-Fi engineering, we created the first QA test framework for measuring Wi-Fi traffic prioritisation within congested environments for 2.4GHz and 5GHz. To achieve a repeatable baseline for future regression testing we standardised previously uncontrollable Wi-Fi variables, allowing accurate repeatable measurements to compare new traffic prioritisation features. Using a structured risk-based approach we made the impossible number of variations, simple and easy to approach. 
  • Test Engineer for a Wi-Fi prioritisation development, I designed and built an automation test lab using real life products to identify traffic prioritisation protocols and run performance comparison testing of routers from TP-Link, Domos, NetDuma, Veego, Arris, Compal and Wi-Fi meshes from Plume. The test suite also compared LAN performance with DSCP prioritisation against Wi-Fi performance and QoS prioritisation. The results presented transparent easy to read comparisons and the additional latency added by Wi-Fi under prioritised conditions.

Liberty Global: Test Engineering Manager – November 2017 to November 2020

  • The role at Liberty Global included managing the test engineers and ongoing projects acquired from telecom acquisitions across Europe, including Virgin Media and Vodafone Ziggo.
  • Programme Test Managed test teams and consultants for software upgrades across Europe, standardizing quality gates, checkpoints, and reporting across multiple regions. Enhancing QA reporting and transparency at the programme level, utilising Jira XRAY dashboards (JQL) to display real-time requirements traceability, defect tracking, and test coverage. The dashboards were designed with Agile methodologies and transparency in mind with the added value of them being live. Utilising different security levels within Jira, the dashboard followed meeting agendas specific for the audience, be that VP and Director level, the Programme board, Project Manager and Product Owner level, down to scrum and daily update meetings.
  • Led the implementation of Advertisement Replacement for linear TV, managing costs, resources, and schedules while synchronising test data between vendors and pre-production systems.
  • Contributed to several key Virgin Media UK test lab upgrades, supporting the migration from TiVo to the Horizon 4 platform.
  • Test Environment Management
    • Within my first 4 months I was able to identify and remove historic issues causing up to 40% downtime which remained under 1% for the three years I managed the test Lab in the UK.
    • Project Manager improving the Test labs, reducing power consumption, and building governance workflows. Removing historic issues and improving environment resilience.
    • Introduced remote access testing through covid by utilising automation tests tools, allowing for deployments to continue at Virgin Media and quality assurance to be signed off remotely.

    • In my role I responded to RFQ’s and won multiple quality assurance projects with solutions that inspired client confidence, delivering faster turnaround times with superior test and requirement coverage.
  • Resource Management
    • My team within Test Engineering included 16 permanent engineers, 2 of which were direct reports. These were complimented by resource available via Infosys and Accenture. During this period, I would run 4 and 7 projects concurrently, with between 9 and 20 resource.
    • To foster good working relationship and encourage cross functional collaboration, I constructed regular touch point meetings, which included “show and tell” sections for team members to present their work, receive feedback from the wider team and create a positive culture where each of the team members proudly presented what they had been working on. The collaboration improved people’s soft skills as well as sharing highly technical solutions with the team. The regular meetings enabled an agile team mindset and allowed my team members to win the companies “You Rock” award for outstanding performance beyond expectations.
  • Apollo Hardware Programme Test Management
    • Programme Test Manager for the STB hardware “4k Mini TV Box”. My role included securing test budget for six departments covering hardware thermal, power, security, functionality, wi-fi performance and interoperability testing. I built the quality assurance framework and migrated the previous test suites and scenarios to Jira for transparency and repeatability.
    • Defined the quality assurance framework and migrated test suites to Jira for transparency on the multi-million-unit 4k Mini TV Box project, ensuring successful completion that earned a Red Dot Award.
  • Horizon 4 Software Programme Test Management
    • Programme Test Manager across Europe for the TV entertainment platform Horizon. I introduced standardised quality gates, quality checkpoint and transparent reporting.
    • Led the testing campaign for advertisement replacement of linear TV from Sky and ITV, managing costs, resources and successfully completed the delivery within budget and ahead of schedule.
    • As Product Owner, I Introduced and helped develop the first automation testing for sound and video synchronisation over in-house Wi-Fi networks.

Capita IT Professional Services: Programme Test Manager – October 2015 to February 2016

  • Delivered end-to-end QA testing for MS Dynamics CRM solution, covering automated billing, email confirmation, resource planning, warehouse ordering, and tracking integration with third-party delivery systems.
  • Led operational acceptance (OAT) and performance testing of the end-to-end pre-production solution, for the MS Dynamics CRM, SharePoint, and BizTalk systems.

ITV: Integration Test Manager – June 2014 to June 2015

  • Managed testing for the digital delivery launch of ITVBe. Performing end-to-end metadata workflows and infrastructure integration. The launch was on-schedule with no major post-launch issues.
  • Using a Kanban Agile framework, I collaborated with product owners, offshore development teams and third-party suppliers, to complete on-time delivery for each stage.
  • Delivered integration testing using a purpose build data-driven metadata test suite, exercising 23 middleware systems, 14 third-party platforms, and 56 interfaces, allowing for full system compatibility and boundary analysis testing across platforms.

Iron Mountain: Programme Test Manager – June 2011 to June 2014

  • End-to-end quality assurance as a Programme Test Manager delivering five work-streams to multi-disciplined government stakeholders. The role required SC security clearance and documentation to TMMI 5 standards.
  • I developed the test strategy and test frameworks for testing, release and test sign off documents required for a custom-built CoTs solution.
  • Working from the initial contract procurement, I hired, led and mentored a small team of testers and personally conducted hands-on testing for five work streams (FAT, SIT, OAT, disaster recovery, performance and load testing)
  • Successfully completed the testing and test witness event for the data migration of 17 million records from legacy systems to a secure IL4 environment.

  • Led a team of 5 testers and worked with SMEs to deliver quality assurance for BSkyB’s infrastructure migration from a tape-based system to a fully digital workflow for video, video editing, and audio content.
  • Managed the tapeless infrastructure migration into Sky Studios, overseeing the ‘lift and shift’ of Avid video and Fairlight audio production suites.

Virgin Media: Test Manager – November 2008 to December 2010

  • Hired as an integration specialist and promoted to VOD test validation manager, leading a team of 5 to 9 testers to successfully launch ITV, Channel 4 and BBC VOD content on the Virgin Media service.
  • Redesigned the test framework for monthly VOD, EPG, and content/promotions updates, reducing the testing process from 25 man-days to 7 man-days, resulting in a 72% resource and test deployment efficiency.

  • While with AIG I was supporting the finance systems and developing for the SaaS provided accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger applications from AXSOne
  • Employed as the lead support and software-training specialist for the European bank reconciliation software CERG/XRT. Travelled onsite to various countries to install customer specific bank reconciliation software, automating 94% of transactions previously manually matched, significantly improving operational efficiency from a 2-week process down to 2 minutes.

  • Performed functional, user acceptance, and system integration testing for multiple financial software applications and systems, including accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger.

    • Zero-Emission Electric Family Car Concept (1993): Designed a short-range electric family vehicle concept in anticipation of proposed UK/European legal initiatives mandating a 2% zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) sales requirement for manufacturers by the mid-1990s. The project included a market analysis identifying early infrastructure needs, including three proposed European charging car parks (with one slated for Coventry). Demonstrates early product foresight against evolving regulatory landscapes.
    • Norton Rotary Engine Motorcycle Concept (1992): Developed a concept motorcycle for Norton, utilising their then-championship-winning rotary engine technology. A key engineering innovation was the design of a hub-less front wheel suspension, which housed the suspension components within the wheel assembly. This design was intended to maintain stable arch geometry, preventing traditional fork bending and reducing front wheel lift during extreme high-speed cornering. Additionally, the concept introduced a proprietary, pre-GPS “traffic speed aware” system designed to display local speed limits by interpreting signals from localised road speed indicators (installed on lampposts). Highlights advanced engineering, feature innovation, and experience design for rider safety and performance.
    • BP Chemicals Manufacturing Optimisation (1992): Engineered a new cassette and video cassette case design for BP Chemicals, shifting the material from styrene to polypropylene. This allowed for a single-piece, thinner product (saving 25% material) with an integrated flexible hinge, streamlining the manufacturing process to a single injection mould and enabling the case to fold and pack itself automatically.     • Pre-MP3 Personal Music Player Concept (Design Council Runner-Up): Conceptualised a personal music player for Pye, utilising existing recording chip technology (found in telephone answering machines at the time) to store and play back audio.
